We are pleased to kick-off Coil Staff Picks, highlighting some of the team’s favorite posts from the previous week. The staff’s selection guidelines are meant to be inclusive of all genres and content and limited to original, high quality creations. All selections have been published or linked on Coil.
Without further delay - and in no particular order - here are the Coil Staff Picks for the week of October 13th.
by Srdan Vocanec
Srdan Vocanec's photography series has been a favorite of ours since he began posting back in July. Within each post are all the tips and tricks the amateur photographer needs to capture that perfect shot. This entry focuses on the ethics of taking candid photos of people on the street.
by RileyQ
One of Coil's earliest adopters, Riley Q, shared a deeply personal and unfiltered experience from her past that lead her to become the ambitious and talented singer and writer that she is today. It takes a lot of courage to share personal experiences like this. We are grateful to have such a talented artist on Coil.
by Docteur CX
The Cathedral of Notre Dame Paris is a beautiful, historic building in the heart of Paris that was engulfed in flames earlier this year. Docteur CX illustrates the storied history of this building and gives us a glimpse of the heartbreak Parisians experienced while they watched it burn.
by Sandra Scala
Sandra Scala's the Mind, Untangled blog is filled with inspirational tidbits and stories to help us untangle our minds. Here, Sandra discusses the need to find self-happiness and the value of simple acts of kindness.
by Derek Groen
While we typically enjoy Derek Groen's insightful and educational, Small Sims Series, it is always a treat when he deviates to write on other topics. Most of us can probably relate to the office crimes that Derek points out in his post, and some of us may even be guilty of committing a few of these.
by XRPLLAMA
Most of us feel accomplished when we simply remember to get gifts for a significant other. XRPLLAMA did something for his wife that puts us to shame. His post details a work-of art that he spent months working on to give as a Christmas gift to his wife.
by Adam Waring
We're always excited when creators find new and interesting ways to utilize the platform. We've seen gaming, music, serialized stories, and so much more. Adam Waring is bringing his comic book series Urban Gladiators to Coil. Though this post was simply an introduction, we are excited to see this series find a new home here.
by Seth Stanley
Seth Stanley's passion for film is apparent in every post he creates. Fans of the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad TV series have been clamoring for a follow-up to the explosive finale for years. Their pleas were answered in the form of a movie. Was it worth the wait? Seth provides his knowledgeable opinion within.
by Sophie Chanko
We love discovering new music. Sophie Chanko has excellent taste and was kind enough to share her favorite songs of October. From mainstream entertainers, like Taylor Swift, to lesser known local musicians, her eclectic selections provide something for everyone. We look forward to more mixtapes!
In a post as shocking as some Game of Thrones episodes, on October 12th, Hodor announced the cessation of his long running blogging series. Hodor was one of Coil’s earliest supporters and a prolific, insightful contributors to the community. Although we will miss him, we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
